Abstract: During 1949-1966, US-Indonesia relations underwent changes from friendship to conflict, reproachement then deterioration. The conflict of Nuetralism of Indonesia and containment strategy of US was the fisrt contradiction. Indonesian nationalism and US partiality towards colonialist Netherland and Britain was the second contradiction. The nature of contradictions lies at the difficulty of reconciling conflict around interests between a global superpower and an emerging regional power.
